A Local's Guide to Stockholm, Sweden

Describe who you are in 3 sentences:
My name is Chanel Forsstrom, I am a swedish girl who enjoys the life of working as a model, traveling and living in New York City. I am a big foodie who loves the healthy lifestyle, being active & inspire others with my life & interests through my youtube channel (Chanel Forsstrom). Friends and family would probably describe me as very positive, outgoing and curious.

What is your relation to this city?
My relation to Stockholm is 25 years long & happy with only good memories, except from the slightly too long winters. I was born and raised here and even though I lived a lot abroad, Stockholm always feel like home.

Best experience?
Is for sure the short distance to nature and water, especially in the summer time, when Stockholm is probably one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

Weirdest experience?
Skiing in the middle of the city. If you wanna hit the slope in the wintertime you can go to a place named "Hammarbybacken", which is 10-15 minutes away from the city centre by car.

Your top 3 hangout spots?
I love to hang out in an area called "Nytorget" at Södermalm, I go here in the weekends for a casual breakfast, brunch or dinner. It has a cool and relaxed vibe. The big national park "Djurgården" is a happy place for me too, I go here everyday for power walks, a run, or a meal at one of the many great cafes or restaurants located here. The old town is definitely a place for mostly tourists, but I like strolling and dining here. The architecture is so pretty and you literally can feel the history in every corner.

Favourite restaurants?
Oh gosh, I got so many! The food scene is great in Stockholm.
- For classic swedish food I would go to "Ulla Winbladh" or "Sturehof".
- For an upscale fun night out I would go to "Bardot" or "Bank Hotel".
- For a classic ”fika” I would head out to "Rosendals trädgård" at Djurgården and sit out in the garden or make a stop at "Fabrique", that has plenty of locations in the city.
- For an amazing casual fine dining experience ”Hantverket” is wonderful.
- For tasty modern mexican food with nice drinks I love "Supper".
- For drinks only I would go to "Hallwylska" in the summertime or "Pharmarium" in the winter.
- If you’re into bengalian food you have to visit "Shanti Gossip" or "Shanti Ultimat".
- For a very instagram friendly breakfast, "Pom & Flora" is your spot.
- For healthy foodies, "Mahalo" at Odengatan, "Organico" at Mariatorget, "Pepstop" or "BodyBuddy" are all great.

Best date place?
..is definitley ”Matbaren” at the Grand Hotel. It is where my fiancé and I always go when we celebrate something.

Best Sunday spot?
..is "Milles". A vibey bistro for locals with delicious food. Or if you have a sweet tooth and want swedish waffles, go to "Älskade traditioner".

If you were to live in another place, where would that be and why?
I already live in the dreamiest city I know; NYC. However if I would choose one in Europe it would for sure be Paris mon amour! I have lived and spent a lot of time in Paris and I love everything about that city. I’ve always said that I will grow old there.

Where is your escape place from this city?
During my teens my ultimate escape place used to be my grandparents country house close to Nynäshamn. Unfortunately, it doesn’t exists anymore and I haven’t really found a replacer yet. I would probably say that our apartment in Stockholm is where I love spending my time when I just want to recharge and be with my fiance.

Best 5 local advices?
I have mentioned so many above already although "The Archipelago", especially in summer time is a must. Either you can rent a car, take the bus or go with the ferry to one of the many islands. There are plenty of gems to visit, for example the art museum "Artipelag" is an inspiring one. The hotel "Ett Hem" is lovely if you're looking for a scandinavian, homey vibe. Don't miss out on all the amazing swedish fashion brands like Rodebjer, Tiger, Acne, most are located around Biblioteksgatan and at the department store NK. Also, if you're looking for a great and intense workout while in town, check out "Becore".
