A Local's Guide to Nosara, Costa Rica

Describe who you are in 3 sentences
My name is Marianne Wells and I am the longest running Yoga School in Costa Rica. I have trained 2500+ students now working as teachers in 65+ countries around the globe. I believe that everyone has the ability to find their purpose, and happiness in this lifetime.

What is your relation to this city?
Nosara, Costa Rica is home to my 200 hour yoga teacher trainings. I first came to this area by request from local resorts asking me to bring my 200 hour yoga teacher training to their ressort in green season. One YTT lead to two and two lead to a career in Costa Rica.

Best experience?
“Doing” absolutely nothing! I teach Really Real Yoga® and Really Real Yoga® is the undoing, not the doing… The beaches, jungles, water falls, and rivers, all are made for living the good life.

Weirdest experience?
Riding in a tuk-tuk in a rain storm and mud flying all around. Sooo much fun!!

Your top 3 hangout spots?
Any place where the sun comes through as the palm trees sway! "La Luna" at sunset. "Lagarta Lodge" at sunset. "Oceana Shala" at sunset.

Favorite restaurants?
- "Luv Burger", 100% plant ingredients and delicious!!
- "Burgers and Beers", beef or other it’s all good!!
- "Harmony Hotel", comfortable zen atmosphere.

Best date place?
Private pools and private beaches! “All I need is Gods green earth and my naked body”.

Best Sunday spot?
I love the local scene on Sundays because family togetherness is so important in this culture. It’s how life use to be, and needs to be again for the health of our humanity.

If you were to live in another place, where would that be and why?
I’m lucky in that this part of the world is one of the Blue Zones, where people live the healthiest and the longest. Great weather, fresh quality food, Pura Vida lifestyle, why would I live anywhere else?!

Where is your escape place from this city?
Atenas, Costa Rica. Named as one of the best places to live in the world by National Geographic. Atenas is high up in the mountains, at night the entire valley twinkles with lights. I love it! Vista Atenas B&B is the place to stay!

Best 5 local advices?
1. Join me for one of my Yoga Training Retreats throughout the year
2. Surfing at any of the several beaches with great waves
3. Hike the waterfalls
4. Join a community beach clean up
5. Horse back ride on the beach

What’s your favorite This Way travel product?
All of the sunscreen products! Vitamin D is good, sun burnt skin is not.
